Matthias Jaime

Deputy Secretary of Technology & Innovation, California Government Operations Agency

Matthias Jaime is currently the Deputy Secretary of Technology & Innovation and the Agency Information Officer for the Government Operations Agency for the State of California. In this capacity, he oversees technology operations for thirteen departments and is responsible for promoting innovative methods throughout government. 

Matthias specializes in organizational transformation and bureaucratic hacking. In his time in government, Matthias has led a number initiations to introduce data-driven insights and participatory design into local government. Some of his accomplishments include leading the creation of the City & County of San Francisco’s Digital Services office which has since become the largest municipal team in the country, creating San Francisco’s digital equity office, and leading San Francisco’s efforts to develop local regulations for new technologies in the public right of way which was featured in the book We the Possibility as a case study on how to use participatory methods in policymaking.

Matthias holds a Master’s in Public Policy from UC Berkeley Goldman School of Public Policy and a BS from the University of Wisconsin Madison. He lives in Oakland with his wife and their dog, Apple.
