Reimagining Public Safety: Defining “Community” in Participatory Research

Co-authors and Possibility Lab researchers Naomi Levy, Amy Lerman, and Peter Dixon aim to develop a more community-centered model for policy design and evaluation. Through the framework of Everyday Indicators for Policy Innovation, they describe the opportunities and challenges of this approach through the case of public safety and, more broadly, to police reform in American cities.

Possibility Lab researchers are gathering these measurements in their work with government and community organizations in the City of Oakland to develop and test holistic, community-up data for public safety reform.
