Regional convenings for our climate future

Our Lab was proud to conduct in-person deliberative workshops at each convening that invited meaningful discussion, sourced policy ideas, and used digital democracy tools to identify consensus ideas based on participation from those in attendance. We look forward to continuing to work with SGC and LCI on the next Catalyst Convenings in the months ahead.

The Governor’s Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation (LCI) is partnering with the Strategic Growth Council (SGC) to host nine regional “Catalyst Convenings” with local and regional actors across the state between March 2025 and mid-2026. The Catalyst Convenings emerged from a desire to streamline State engagement at the regional scale, in order to inform meaningful actions the State can take to support local and regional organizations working in alignment with state departments/agencies. The Possibility Lab has been supporting LCI and SGC to develop meaningful engagement and facilitation strategies. These strategies aim to encourage local and regional attendees of these convenings to share what policy and/or administrative challenges and priorities their regions face and to use this information to inform key recommendations.

We have hosted the first three convenings in the San Diego and Los Angeles regions in March 2025 and the Bay Area convening in July 2025. These convenings brought together representatives from local and regional governments, tribal entities, community-based organizations, foundations, and institutions of higher education to understand the bio-regions and explore specific regional issues, facilitate two-way conversations on climate, land use, and the environment, and enable regions to inform and co-create actionable recommendations.
